Incarceration Generation Timeline
This timeline is from the 2013 coffee-table book "Incarceration Generation," created by the Justice Policy Institute. This book includes "essays detailing the rise of mass incarceration over the last 40 years," and features "commentary from 21 researchers, advocates, and people who have personally experienced the system." The essays and graphics in this book work to "illuminate how mass incarceration has impacted our nation," the unjust practices that have shaped this impact, and some of the policy changes that must occur for this system and the populations affected by it to change. This timeline "portrays the major events that have shaped society's acceptance of a massive prison industrial complex."
